The Peekskill Police and Fire 5K is a fundraiser to support the scholarships and other donations given back to the Peekskill community. The scholarships and donations are given in the names of Fallen Peekskill Police Detective Charlie Wassil and Fallen Peekskill Career Firefighter Kevin Bristol.
The run begins at the corner of Central Ave and Water St, and ends at the Riverfront Green. Awards will be given for top three female and males in each age group.
Register in advance at Runsignup.com/PeekskillPoliceandFire5K. Advanced registration is $30 and guarantees you an event t-shirt in the size you request. Registration on the day of the event is $40.

Vehicles from 1992 to 2017 must have 5 modifications to be eligible for Awards! To be eligible for awards, all cars must display their window cards, have their hoods and trunks open and have a fire extinguisher.

Judges evaluate cars on their merit style, quality and workmanship. Cars are not parked by class so participants may park together with friends or as they choose.

Wells Fargo Stagecoach, English and Western Riding Classes Highlight Peekskill Rotary’s 47th Annual Horse Show & Country Fair

-- Rotary Fundraiser to Benefit Peekskill & Cortlandt Communities --

The Rotary Club of Peekskill will host its 47th Annual Horse Show and Country Fair Sept. 23 and 24 at the Blue Mt. Reservation in Peekskill.

A Wells Fargo Stagecoach and team of four horses will offer rides out of the Old West while complementing western riding competition on Saturday.

Admission and parking are free and the show will go on, rain or shine. Competition and attractions will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

This is the only show in Westchester County with both English and Western riding classes. There are 28 Western classes with eight championships on Saturday, and 28 English classes with eight championships on Sunday. Riders from stables throughout the tristate area participate in the show.

Fair attractions include pony and hay rides, a country fair and craft market, bounce and slide rides for the children, and a “Kountry Kitchen” offering home-baked goods, pumpkins, apples and mums. In the food tent, Rotarians serve up burgers, hot dogs, chicken, sausage and peppers, fries, beverages, ice cream and pretzels. Breakfast is available for early-arrivers.

The highly regarded Masonic Safety ID Program offered by Courtlandt Masonic Lodge #34 will be offered again this year. The program provides parents at no charge with a CD including a child’s photo and background data to help law enforcement agencies more quickly recover a missing child.

Peekskill Rotary President Chappy Manzer said, “We enjoy producing this show and are proud that it is recognized as one of the ‘must see’ family events in our community. We also are thankful for the hundreds of Rotarians who have worked so hard to make this event successful for the past 46 years.

“The horse show continues to be our club’s main fundraiser, with all proceeds donated back into the community and to meet international humanitarian needs.”

Blue Mt. Reservation is located on Welcher Ave. off Route 9.

The Rotary Club of Peekskill was chartered 98 years ago. The club has about 90 members representing a cross-section of the Peekskill and Cortlandt communities.

Westchester County has a long and storied history with the automobile dating back to the turn of the last century when in 1908 it first hosted the Briarcliff Grand Prix in which autos of the day traveled a 30 mile lap around the county ten times. It was said that over three hundred thousand spectators lined the route as people came out to see these new-fangled machines. It is in this spirit that Hudson Valley Car Week will commence with the inaugural running of the Peekskill Vintage Grand Prix. This automotive event will have vintage cars (1967 and older) traverse a 2 mile route that will take them through downtown Peekskill as well as along the beautiful waterfront showcasing the spectacular Hudson River.
